Why It Matters
Bad installation kills bearings. Simple as that. A little mistake = noise, heat, failure. Do it right = smooth running for years.
Before You Start
Keep it clean
Bearings are precision parts. A speck of dust can ruin one. Keep them wrapped until the last second.
Check everything
Look at the shaft and housing. No burrs? No dirt? Good. Check sizes too.
How to Mount: 3 Ways
① Press fit (for small/medium)
Use a press. Never hit the bearing with a hammer—that damages it.
Push on the right ring:
- Going onto a shaft? Push the inner ring
- Going into a housing? Push the outer ring
② Heat fit (for big bearings)
Heat the inner ring—it expands, slides on easy. Use a heater or oil bath. Max 120°C (hotter ruins the steel).
③ Oil injection (for huge bearings)
Squirt high-pressure oil between the ring and shaft—it floats right on.
Set the Clearance
If your bearing is adjustable (like FODA tapered ones), get it right. Too loose = wobble. Too tight = heat.
Use a feeler gauge to check.
Lube It Up
Before mounting, wipe a little oil or grease on the shaft and housing. Prevents rust.
After mounting, add grease (or check oil flow).
Final Spin
Hand-spin the bearing. Should feel smooth, no rough spots or noise.
For high-speed stuff, run it slow first. Listen. Feel. Make sure it’s happy.
Don’t Do These
❌ Hammering the bearing
❌ Pushing the wrong ring
❌ Overheating
❌ Dirty hands/tools
❌ Skipping the final check
