Bearing Installation in Gearbox Assembly: Get It Right for Long Life

Preparation

Cleaning & Inspection: Clean bearings and shaft necks with refined kerosene to ensure no metal debris residue. Check shaft neck diameter deviation (≤0.01mm) and bearing seat roundness error (≤0.02mm). Repair if out of tolerance . Verify bearing model matches drawings and measure radial clearance meets requirements

Installation Methods

Hot Mounting Method (Recommended)

Heat bearings in oil to 80-100℃, maintain for 30 minutes, then quickly mount onto shaft journal . Bearings must not contact tank bottom—suspend them Never use acetylene flame for heating .

Cold Press Method

For light interference, use a copper rod to strike the inner ring face (never strike outer ring or transmit force through rolling elements) . For greater interference, use hydraulic press with pressure gradient ≤2mm/s .

Seating Requirements

Bearings must seat firmly against shaft shoulders with no gaps or looseness . After cooling, rotate by hand—movement should be smooth, cage normal, no striking sounds

Critical Fit Parameters

ItemRequirement
Bearing-shaft interference0.02-0.05mm
Radial clearance, outer ring to cover0.05-0.10mm
Shaft diameter deviation≤0.01mm
Housing roundness error≤0.02mm
Axial clearanceBy design

Post-Installation Verification

Test Run: Run without load for 30 minutes, bearing temperature rise ≤25℃, rolling bearing limit 80℃ . Use dial gauge to check axial runout—allowable ≤0.02mm.

Clearance Recheck: For adjustable bearings, set clearance to specified value . Tapered roller bearings require axial clearance adjustment—common methods: shim adjustment or screw adjustment .
