Bearing Removal | No Damage, No Stress.

When it’s time to replace a bearing, the way you remove it matters just as much as how you install the new one. Improper removal can damage shafts, housings, and surrounding components—compromising the performance of your new FODA BEARING before it even runs. The goal is simple: remove the old bearing without stress, without damage, and without risk.

Core Principles

At FODA BEARING, we follow four core principles for safe, damage-free bearing removal.

1. Always pull on the inner ring.
The inner ring is designed to withstand mounting and removal forces. Pulling on the outer ring or rolling elements can cause internal fracture or bearing disintegration.

2. Use steady, gradual force.
Sudden impacts—like hammering—create hidden cracks and brinell marks. Slow, controlled pressure ensures safe separation.

3. Heat the housing, not the bearing.
For tight fits, apply heat to the housing to expand it. Direct heating of the bearing risks softening the steel and destroying its hardness.

4. Stop and rethink.
If the bearing won’t move, forcing it only causes damage. Apply penetrating oil, gentle heat, or reconsider your approach.

Recommended Methods

Method 1: Bearing Puller (Recommended)
A mechanical puller is the safest and most controlled method. Position the jaws to grip the inner ring, then tighten the center screw gradually with steady pressure. If the bearing resists, stop—apply penetrating oil or gentle warmth to the housing, then try again.

Method 2: Press
When the shaft can be removed from the assembly, a press offers excellent control. Support the bearing’s inner ring on press plates, then apply steady pressure to the shaft end until the bearing separates. Let the bearing fall freely—never catch it by hand.

Method 3: Heat + Puller (For Tight Fits)
For seized or high-interference fits, use an induction heater or torch to heat the housing evenly—keep the flame away from the shaft. Once the housing is sufficiently expanded, quickly apply a puller to remove the bearing.
